The 16-year-old arrested after a shooting outside a Lower Queen Anne nightclub on Friday, March 19 has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a stolen firearm, according to the King County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Satterberg’s office.

Police were called to Club Diamond, located at 332 5th Ave N, at around 11:30 p.m. on Friday after patrolling officers heard three gunshots fired in the area, said SPD. Club security told police that two groups of men who “appeared to be rival gang members (one group in red, the other in blue)” were witnessed arguing back and forth before shots were fired.

One arrest was made–a 16-year-old male who was found to have a stolen semi-automatic handgun on his person. According to the Satterberg’s office, no one was hit by the gunfire, however an ongoing investigation is underway. The arraignment is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. this morning, Thursday, March 25 in a Juvenile Court, and if convicted as charged the suspect could face up to 30 days of detention. However, Satterberg has consistently advocated for longer sentences for juveniles involved in gun crimes.

Under present law, it takes five convictions for illegal gun possession before a juvenile offender faces a sentence in a juvenile rehabilitation facility like Echo Glen. The first four convictions carry local sanctions, which is 0 to 30 days in detention. Sentence ranges are established by the Washington State Legislature. King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg has previously testified before lawmakers arguing for longer sentences for gun crimes involving juveniles. He will renew his efforts during next year’s legislative session.

According to SeattleCrime.com, the suspect’s only prior criminal record is a theft charge from 2009.

Club Diamond has seen a handful shootings and robberies in the last few months. And this isn’t the only incidence of its kind to happen in the area recently. Two days after this shooting, another shooting took place at a different Lower Queen Anne night club, only this time it happened inside the building.
