Tomorrow is Earth Day, a celebration of local efforts to reduce, reuse, conserve, and work together for a better global future.

• The City’s official Earth Day celebration on Sunday, April 22, kicks off Next 50 Sustainable Futures Month with an opening ceremony at 11 a.m. featuring elected officials, special keynote speaker and the groundbreaking for House of the Immediate Future, a Habitat for Humanity building project. Next 50 Plaza & Playhouse / INTIMAN, free.

• Join our neighbors in Fremont for the inaugural Fremont Earth Day Festival at Nectar Lounge. The event will feature over 20 bands, acoustic performers and DJs. Additionally, there will be a number of speakers and sponsor booths dedicated to a message of bicycle commuting and sustainability, plus a raffle and silent auction benefiting the Cascade Bicycle Club’s Education Foundation. Kickoff is at 11AM with a kids’ dance party.

• Celebrate Earth Day at 10AM with The Children’s Museum and the Monorail. Visit the Museum for education programs to learn about energy conservation, and RSVP on the Museum’s website to participate in a tour of the underside of the Monorail!

• Approximately 360 volunteers will participate in the fourth year of “Earth Gay” by continuing restoration of the Cheshiahud Trail that circles the lake. They will pull weeds, remove invasive vegetation, lay mulch and perform other tasks to improve this part of the trail. For more event information.

• Local pizzeria Zaw will donate a pizza to a local farm with the purchase of one pizza. The goal is to help the Farms with a cool way to reward their workers, volunteers, pickers, Farmer’s Market staff – or to simply gift them back some of the joy that they give us all year long by producing their Northwest bounty. So thank Alvarez Organic Farms, Full Circle Farms, Hayton Farms, Oxbow Farms, Pipitone Farm, Sidhu Farms, or Tonnemaker Family Orchard with the gift of a Zaw pizza. Zaw Queen Anne: 206.787.1198

• Join SIFF for a special global event screening of One Day On Earth. On November 11 (11.11.11), documentary filmmakers, students, and other inspired citizens across the planet recorded the human experience over a 24-hour period to contribute their voice to the second annual global day of media creation called One Day on Earth. They show both the challenges and hopes of humanity from many diverse perspectives, proving that the world is interconnected, enormous, perilous, and wonderful. 6:30PM at SIFF Cinema at the Uptown.

Brown Bear Car Wash is honoring Earth Day with a $1 donation per car washed to Friends of the Cedar River Watershed (FCRW). The proceeds will go to support the education-based Volunteer Habitat Restoration work of FCRW. The group is a local non-profit whose mission is, “to enhance and sustain local watersheds through restoration, education and stewardship.” All Brown Bear locations will be participating, including the Interbay, at 1800 15th Ave W Seattle WA 98119.
