Bumbershoot turns 42 this week! It’s that time of year again, Labor Day is approaching and so is Seattle’s very own Bumbershoot. What’s that mean? A slew of great music, film, comedy, spoken word, theatre, and visual arts to choose from – as well as some traffic and parking impacts, which is to be expected when 100,000 attendees are making the trek to the Seattle Center to celebrate Bumbershoot’s 42nd year.

First held in 1971, Bumbershoot is now North America’s largest urban arts festival, and this year it runs from Saturday, Sept 1 through Monday, Sept 4.

Traffic and parking woes aside, there’s a key upside for locals attending Bumbershoot – out-of-towners are facing the highest hotel rates in the country for the upcoming weekend, with Seattle hotel rooms averaging $312, up 65% due to Bumbershoot.

Headlining acts include Jane’s Addiction, Missy Higgins, Tony Bennett, Skrillex, Gotye, and M83 (all performing on the Bumbershoot main stage at Key Arena) – and there are too many more acts to list, including local bands and artists, so check out the link for the full lineup below.

All indoor venues have limited capacity, and admission is on a first-come, first-served basis (with exceptions for Gold and Platinum). Comedy Passes are recommended to secure a seat for comedy performances, with a limited quantity of free pases available each day at the Comedy Pass distribution booth.

And, for family-friendly events, check out Youngershoot. The Children’s Museum is hosting both indoor and outdoor activities in the Youngershoot Kids Zone. Access is restricted to children aged 10 and under and their guardians, and is open daily during Bumbershoot, from 11:00am–6:00pm.
