Seattle Vikings Rugby is open to boys and girls ages 7 to 18, and registration is now open for the 2013 Spring season. To prep for the season and and welcome prospective new players, the Vikings are hosting an open house next Saturday. The team practices and plays at the Magnuson Park rugby field, and is open to kids from all over Seattle. The team currently has quite a few Queen Anne players and there are school visits and meetings held on Queen Anne during the season.

According to Craig Wicks, Director of Coaching for the Seattle Vikings: “We really want to connect with kids in Queen Anne about the sport of rugby. We see a real opportunity for rugby to grow here as a fun sport that celebrates diversity and fair play, and brings a real sense of community to players and their families.”

Wicks has seen significant growth in Seattle rugby, with participation last year growing to “over 100 boys and girls participat[ing] with summer programs for kids as young as 3.” And, the team itself is expanding its reach with “an upcoming tour planned to Ireland and Wales in 2013.”

At the open house, prospective players and their parents can meet the coaches, staff, and returning players and their families. The Open House will also feature a general overview of rugby and the upcoming 2013 season that begins in January and runs through May.
