The Pacific Northwest Ballet’s Nutcracker, a family favorite, kicks off this Friday, December 7th with 30 performances running through December 29th. PNB Founding Artistic Director Kent Stowell and world-famous author and illustrator Maurice Sendak created PNB’s production of the holiday classic – setting it apart from other productions of the holiday classic. PNB’s annual Stowell/Sendak Nutcracker features over 200 roles danced by professional dancers and students, including 16 Queen Anne students.

PNB School students auditioned for PNB’s Nutcracker at the end of September at the Phelps Center on Mercer Street. Several hundred children from all levels of the school auditioned, with 222 selected to perform in this year’s production. Roles are double (and sometimes triple) cast – for example, 3 students – one from Queen Anne – perform the role of Clara.

The students have been working hard at rehearsals that began in late October, and they’re ready to take the stage on Friday night! Photos of our local students were taken during costume fittings at PNB’s rehearsal studios at the Phelps Center; available fitting photos are below.
