SFD Firefighter funeral procession will route around Queen Anne mid-day Wednesday

Tomorrow, Wednesday March 27th, the Seattle Fire Department will be mourning the loss of one of its own, Seattle Firefighter Jess Hernandez. Hernandez passed away after a battle with cancer, just shy of his 20 year anniversary with SFD.

The funeral procession will make its way from Fremont to downtown via North Queen Anne, Interbay, and Uptown. It will begin at 11:30am in Fremont and proceed down Nickerson to 15th Ave W, then on to Mercer, concluding at Fire Station 2 at 2320 4th Avenue. Along the route Fire Engine Companies and Ladder Companies will be stationed with their emergency lights activated and firefighters standing at attention.

Per SFD, the intersections where Firefighters will be staging are as follows (and plotted the map for reference):

  • Fremont Ave North and Fremont Place
  • Nickerson St and 13th Ave W
  • 15th Ave W and W Galer Street
  • Elliott Ave W and W Mercer Place
  • Fire Station 2, 2340 4th Avenue

At noon the funeral procession will depart Fire Station 2, proceeding south on 4th Avenue, turning right at Bell Street to reach 2nd Avenue, and ending at Christ Our Hope Catholic Church at 1902 2nd Avenue.
