The 2.5 acre Seattle Children’s Home at McGraw and 9th Ave W (901 W McGraw St) has been sold to Toll Brothers, a developer who plans to cut down old trees, demo the existing six buildings, and build 66 townhomes on the site.

Future Queen Anne, a group of local residents, has come together to speak out against this type of development, and advocate for smarter growth on Queen Anne. They’ve started a petition and have sent a letter to the Department of Planning and Development (DPD), the City of Seattle, and the City Council.

Earlier tonight, KING5 profiled the group’s efforts around the proposed townhome development. The KING5 team contacted Toll Brothers, but did not receive a response. You can view the segment by clicking on the picture below:

If you’re interested in smart development on Queen Anne, there are several things you can do. You can join Future Queen Anne via their Facebook page or via email, sign the petition for the smart development of the Seattle Children’s Home site, and connect with your neighbors and let them know about the proposed development and the Future Queen Anne petition.

The more signatures the group gathers, the closer they are to ensuring smart growth on Queen Anne.
