The Streamline Tavern is one of the tenants in the block of buildings on Mercer St purchased by the Republic of South Korea for a new South Korean Consulate. That means they will have to vacate their current location at 121 Mercer by the end of this year.
Many readers have asked about the Streamline’s future, and we’ve been watching building sales, leases, and liquor licenses. On Monday, the owners of The Streamline applied for an assumption liquor license – this type of license is issued “where there is a currently licensed business with the same exact type of liquor license”.
The currently liquor license holder is listed as Jabu’s Pub at 174 Roy Street. Yesterday, I spoke with Streamline’s owner, Mike Lewis, about the license and Streamline’s future. Since nothing is final yet, he cannot confirm what may or may not happen in the coming weeks and months. Things are still in flux, and we’d prefer to wait for confirmation (and, ideally, celebration) before publishing local news.
However, Eater Seattle picked up the liquor license news today and posted about the Streamline’s potential new home, writing that “Jabu’s Pub on Roy St. has changed its name to Streamline Tavern”. What’s actually happened is a change to the name on the liquor license, not the business license. Jabu’s is still open and operating as its own business. [note: Eater has since updated the post to clarify the change.]
