Little Howe Park wading pool opens for the season on Monday

June has been a little strange this year, masquerading as August… and some really hot weather is headed our way this weekend, with Saturday forecasted to hit 90 or above. The dry, hot weather begs the question “when will the Little Howe Wading Pool be filled with water?”

Little Howe Wading PoolThis year, Seattle Wading Pool Season runs from June 29th through September 7th, and Little Howe will operate on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Sundays from noon to 7pm. That means that the Little Howe Wading Pool will be splish-splashing starting Monday, June 29th – assuming the forecast calls for temps of 70* or higher (and lately, that’s not even a remote stretch).

To save water, the city will only fill the pool halfway, except on the busiest days when they’ll be completely full (likely weekend days). The city has also provided a comparison of the Little Howe Wading Pool to home wading pools – there’s a significant water savings:

“If 50 families used the East Queen Anne wading pool at 160 Howe St., rather than filling their home wading pools, the water saved would equal that needed to fill the public wading pool, which would serve a lot more than 50 kids!”

Get ready to enjoy summer and watch the forecast to plan ahead for wading pool days. If the rest of the summer follows June’s example, it’ll be a hot one!
