It’s National Farmers Market Week, a perfect time to swing by the Queen Anne Farmers Market. Here are some stats that QAFM shared about Farmers Markets:
- Farmers Markets protect farmland from development: 1 in 4 farmers at markets farm on protected land
- Growers selling local create 13 farm jobs per $1 million in revenue, while those not selling local only create 3 jobs
- 1.5 million low-income families got fresh local produce at Farmers Markets through WIC FMNP in 2013
- People eat more fruits and veggies when they shop at a Farmers Market instead of a grocery store
- 3 in 4 farmers selling at Farmers Markets use practices consistent with organic standards
Today’s rotating vendors and activities include:
Wineries: Lopez Island Vineyard & Winery and Stomani Cellars & Winery
Food Trucks: Fish Basket, Roll OK Please, and Grilled Cheese Experience
Artisans: Jonboy Caramels, NW Gourmet Harvest, Chimacum Valley Dairy, and Luv Macarons
Community Tent: Learn about the work of the Queen Anne Food Bank at Sacred Heart this week at the Community Tent.
Live Music: Join indie outlaws Whitherward for an evening of modern Americana, classic folk, and 90’s rock (ceremoniously dubbed “power folk”). This acoustic duo is coming all the way from Denver, Colorado, to play the picnic lawn.
Plan a trip to the QAFM today between 3pm and 7:30pm, grab dinner at a food truck, learn about the Food Bank, listen to some power folk music, and take home fresh fruits, veggies, flowers, and more!
