Campfire ExteriorAbout 10 days ago, a reader let us know that Citizen has a new roommate at 706 Taylor Ave N – then, the flu hit me and derailed my plans on digging for more BBQ info. Now that I’m feeling a bit better, the blog posts are stacked pretty high in the queue. But, let’s first get to the new BBQ joint, Campfire BBQ, that’s set up shop in Citizen’s parking lot.

For now, you can get Campfire BBQ on Saturdays and Sundays, 3pm-8pm each day. And, once they finish spiffing up the little parking lot – which won’t take much longer – the little smokehouse-inspired wagon will be open 4-5 days a week. And, this is good news for Queen Anne. I’ve had Campfire BBQ at other roving locations, and it’s the real deal. Queen Anne is lucky to have this gem at the bottom of the hill.

In part, Campfire BBQ’s new location is due to the entrepreneurship of Suzana Omos, owner of Citizen (right next door) and Citizen Six (housed in the Number 6 Cider taproom on Elliott Ave W). She secured the rights to use the parking lot adjacent to Citizen and wanted to make it a great outdoor space for the neighborhood. She reached out to Campfire BBQ and the rest is now history in motion.

I reached out to owners Stefan and Julie Giles, they described Campfire BBQ’s history as follows:

“We started Campfire BBQ in 2012 … Campfire began as a hobby for Stefan as he tried to satisfy the cravings of family and friends that found the Texas style BBQ they were craving to be an elusive beast in the Northwest, but soon turned into a thriving small business as word of mouth spread and demand grew. With his father hailing from Texas and his mother from Germany, you could say that Stefan literally has BBQ imprinted on his DNA.

Campfire BBQ only uses quality ingredients and sources meats that are local, organic and sustainable whenever possible. All of our BBQ is done slow and low over a real wood fire – an hour and a half per pound on average.”

Dog bonePlus, we hear on reader-authority that bones are available for Queen Anne pups, so a dog-friendly business to boot! Check out a Queen Anne View reader’s dog, Latte, to the left, with a free Campfire BBQ bone she carried all the way home…

Stop by Citizen this weekend and watch for expanded service in the near future!
