Pianos in the Parks, a public-private partnership that connects people, parks, and music, returns this summer with a kick off at Kerry Park this Friday, July 8th. The inaugural Pianos in the Park at Kerry Park is just the first of 10 pianos in 10 days at 10 different parks in the Seattle-metro area.

Kerry Park will host a piano, featuring the vision of artist J. Adam Brinson, from 10am to 7pm on Friday. Brinson’s statement for the piano is as follows:

“This project is intended to visually explore a couple ideas. The first is the nature of the piano itself, as a percussion instrument with a range of melodic capabilities. Its parallel stripes impart a sense of rhythm, while the colors and details across those stripes act like a graphic melody. The second idea is how a piece’s design can reflect the different experiences people will have engaging with it. I hope anyone who sees this piano can find something in its “melody” that speaks to them. Plus, with the solar-powered lights, they can come back after dark for more variety.”

No image is available yet for Brinson’s piano, but his “Tense Balance” was installed at the Seattle Center in 2015 (photo courtesy of Pianos in the Park):

In addition to the piano, a special performance (artist TBD) is planned, along with activities sponsored by Gage Academy of Art.

Pianos in the Park will have a presence on Queen Anne for the duration of the program, with an artist-designed piano at KEXP’s new home at the Seattle Center for all to check out and enjoy.
