Ikiki sidewalkAll summer, it’s been conspicuously absent – outdoor seating at Ikiiki Sushi. The pan-Asian spot at 12 Boston St has had indoor-only tables this year, while its neighbors Orrapin and Grappa have outdoor seating ready to go every day. Same across the street at Bounty Kitchen, and all along Queen Anne Ave N.

Now that we’ve hit the dog days of summer, an application for an outdoor sidewalk cafe is posted on Ikiiki’s front window.

Ikiki SDOT Cafe ApplicationIn the past, the restaurant has had outdoor seating, but a “table and chairs” permit differs from a “Sidewalk Café Permit” – and the latter is more often what restaurants have on Queen Anne.

Restaurants that want to have table service and alcohol served along the sidewalk must have a Sidewalk Café Permit.

A railing is required for Sidewalk Cafés, so expect one to go in soon as Ikiiki joins its neighbors on Boston St in providing an outdoor dining experience during our glorious Seattle summers.
