foundation-storefrontOpen just over a month, Foundation is Queen Anne’s newest locally-owned shop, bringing classic, comfortable clothing to Queen Anne Ave N. Shop owner Summer David curates the collection that fills the small space with efficient ease. Located in the old My Dressing Room spot at 1817 Queen Anne Ave N, the shop features new merchandise every week.

Summer wanted to open a boutique for a while, and a Kickstarter campaign helped launch the venture. Along the way, she found a storefront on Queen Anne, which seems somewhat serendipitous, as it’s one of her favorite Seattle neighborhoods. Summer cites qualities that we all love about Queen Anne, including the walkability, the small town feel, and many locally owned businesses. For the latter, she specifically calls out the many women-owned businesses on Queen Anne Ave, of which Foundation is now a member.

Check out how Foundation has transformed the small 200 square foot space via a panorama shot from Summer:

According to Summer, customers are at the heart of Foundation:

“I’ve wanted to open my own store for a while, but it was listening to my clients tell me how hard it is to find casual, comfortable, classic pieces for their wardrobes without having to run all over town that really helped form the vision for Foundation. In the past six weeks, I’ve had so many customers walk in and tell me my store looks like a snapshot of their closets, and a few even asked if there is a “one of everything” subscription service – that’s when I knew I was on the right track! I already have “regulars” and I look forward to meeting more folks every day.”

What can you expect to find at Foundation? Summer describes her merchandise as “wear it everyday” clothing with nothing over $300, and most items under $100. Think jeans and casual pants, sweaters and tees, jackets and day dresses. As we inch closer to the holidays, expect her to get a few “fancy” pieces in the shop, along with scarves, bags, and a small collection of jewelry.  You can stay up to date on what’s in the shop via Foundation’s Facebook page.

Stop by Foundation to welcome Summer to the neighborhood. Remember, it’s the small, independent, locally-owned shops that help make up the character of Queen Anne – we’re lucky to have another one join our community!
