There’s been much discussion about the need for additional schools in the area, especially high schools. Lakeside School, the high school that Bill Gates and Paul Allen attended, is opening a “Lakeside affiliated micro-school” near Seattle Center.

The private school, named The Downtown School, will open at 204 Warren Ave N, a 1927 brick building owned by the Archdiocese of Seattle. The building was previously home to Sacred Heart School and Waldorf High School (photo from Lakeside School):

Lakeside has a lease for the space and will update it in advance of opening in the fall of 2018. At full enrollment, the school will serve 160 students in grades 9 through 12. Tuition will be $17,000 per year, which is almost half of Lakeside School’s 2018 tuition rate of $33,280.

The Downtown School will begin accepting applications this fall for students entering 9th and 10th grade in the 2018-2019 school year. For more information, visit Lakeside School’s website.
