Heads up from SDOT – the Seafair Torchlight Parade and Torchlight Run are both tomorrow, Saturday, July 29th. Traffic around Seattle Center will be impacted and the Run will shut down the Viaduct. Here’s the scoop from SDOT, see maps at the end of the post:

“SDOT is reminding travelers of the Seafair Torchlight Run and Alaska Airlines Seafair Torchlight Parade happening this Saturday. Areas that will be impacted by these events include downtown, the Seattle Center, South Lake Union, Queen Anne and SODO neighborhoods. Please plan ahead for your travel in and around the city as the events will add to area congestion.

The Seafair Torchlight Run occurs Saturday evening in downtown Seattle. The 5K and 8K runs start at 6 p.m. prior to the Torchlight Parade. The run will close 4th Ave between Denny Way and Wall St beginning at 4 p.m. for staging and the remainder of the course will close at 5 p.m. Northbound SR 99 will close for runners between 5 p.m. and 7:45 p.m. between South Spokane St and Harrison St just north of the Battery Street Tunnel. All southbound lanes will remain open. About 1,500 people are expected to participate.

Following the run, the Alaska Airlines Seafair Torchlight Parade will bring a large number of spectators and cause congestion on incoming routes and city streets in the late afternoon and evening as they claim spots to sit along the parade route on 4th Ave. The parade starts at 7:30 p.m. and goes down 4th Ave from Seattle Center to Pioneer Square. About 26,000 people are expected to attend. 4th Ave will reopen around 10:30 p.m. and routes out of downtown will be congested as the crowds leave the event.”
