Tomorrow, Monday, September 18th, the Queen Anne Community Council (QACC) is holding its LURC (Land Use Review Committee) meeting. Nearly the entire meeting will be devoted to the planned redevelopment of the Upper Queen Anne Safeway. The Safeway development project team will be on hand at the meeting. See the preliminary plan below.

The meeting is open to the public. If you have questions or concerns about this project, attend tomorrow’s meeting at the Queen Anne Community Center (1901 1st Ave W) at 7pm,

Here’s the agenda from the QACC:

7:00PM – 7:15PM
Update current legislation and amendments concerning the Uptown Rezone.

Update the current proposals to revise the Design Review program.

Update the permitting process and upcoming public hearing concerning the Garfield Exchange Building.

7:15PM – 9:00PM
The Safeway block is undergoing a complete redevelopment and the project team will come to LURC to present their very preliminary plans to us Monday night. Their goal is to double the store size and improve the physical store and shopping experience to a much higher level. Their development plans include the entire block except for the collection of small buildings at the corner which they do not own. They do own the parking lot on the northeast corner.

In addition to the new Safeway, they have proposed several floors of housing above and ample parking below grade to service the store and apartment residents alike. As is often the case, we have invited the development team to come before LURC and our community to learn more about our issues and opportunities for them to consider.
