The monthly Queen Anne Art Walk is tomorrow, Saturday, December 5th. Sandwiched between Holiday Magic tonight and Sunday’s Chanukah Let It Glow celebration, the Art Walk fills the gap and provides a good reason to stay on Queen Anne all weekend.

This month’s Art Walk includes a Holiday Group Show, Peace, at The Fountainhead Gallery, as well as art from local artists on display at local shops and businesses. At The Fountainhead alone you can see over 60 works of art by 30 different artists.

Inaugural Queen Anne Art Walk kicks off this Saturday

Gretchen Krich

Upper Queen Anne has been lacking an art walk for too long – and now, thanks to local artist Laura Early, one is kicking off on Saturday, June 6th from 4pm to 7:30pm.

Early works at The Fountainhead Gallery (625 W McGraw St) and noted the need for a Queen Anne Art Walk (hear, hear!). She’s rallied local businesses near Crockett and McGraw streets to join in on the Queen Anne Art Walk, and all it needs now is community involvement to help celebrate art and keep the momentum going for more Art Walks in the future.

Here are some of the shops that have paired up with local artists:

Bliss Kolb

  • Bustle Caffe, 535 W McGraw St: Peter Moser, a painter and a teacher at Coe Elementary School
  • Targy’s Tavern, 600 W Crockett St: Tracy Ling, photography
  • Beverly Hunnicutt Studio, 608 W Crockett St: Annieo Klaas, textile-based work
  • Meadow Boutique, 1959 6th Ave W: Gretchen Krich, photographic botanical images
  • Malena’s Taco Shop, 620 W McGraw St: phone booth by an unknown, mysterious guerrilla artist
  • Stacya Silverman Art & Beauty, 614 W McGraw St: photgraphers Thomas Schworer, Ron Reeder, Davis Freeman, Anita Nowacka, Jay Defehr
  • Fountainhead Gallery, 625 W McGraw St: Michael Ferguson, whimsical painter

Plus, for one night only, Bliss Kolb will be showing his dragonfly automata at Stacya Silverman’s gallery during the walk. You can check out his moving artworks online.

All participating artists are local, including some graduates from Cornish College of the Arts. Good news for future Art Walks – there were more artists than the businesses had space for this go-around. If you know a local business that’d like to get in on an upcoming Art Walk, let us know!

Even more businesses and artists are joining in as the week progresses, with art, tasty bites, and special events.

Monthly Uptown Art Walk kicks off next Wednesday

You’ve likely noticed that many Queen Anne businesses adorn their walls with artwork from local artists. It’s a great way for artists to get exposure and help keep our businesses beautiful at the same time. However, Queen Anne has been lacking an organized art walk – until now.

Starting next Wednesday, March 19th, the Uptown Art Walk kicks off a monthly tour-de-art. The group that’s organizing the walk has lined up the following local businesses to take part in the walk:

Uptown Art Walk

  • Caffe Vita
  • The Vera Project
  • SIFF
  • Tin Lizzie Lounge
  • Queen Anne Psychic
  • Cafe GoldinBlack
  • Pink’s – The Beauty Boutique
  • Oskar’s Kitchen
  • Liberty Tattoo Seattle
  • The Mecca Cafe
  • Peridot Boutique
  • Mercer Street Books
  • Pagliacci
  • Toulouse Petit
  • Obasan

According to the Uptown Art Walk organizers:

“We were encouraged and facilitated by Charley Shore, the Executive Director of the Queen Anne Chamber of Commerce and were inspired to do something to involve the community businesses in the art that we see all around us in Uptown in what is becoming a real Seattle arts corridor.”

Going forward, the Uptown Art Walk will take place every third Wednesday of the month. The March event highlights the block around the corner of Queen Anne Ave N and Mercer St, and the April event will be on Roy St.

All are welcome to join the Art Walk! It runs til 7:30pm. And, an update: Pagliacci will host a Live Acoustic Music night during the Art Walk. Live music and hot slices beginning at 5pm on Wednesday at the Queen Anne location.
