Tonight’s Uptown Art Walk features art, music, and pumpkins too

Uptown Art Walk MainIt’s the third Wednesday of the month, and that means it’s time for the Uptown Art Walk.

The free walk is a great way to celebrate local artists and businesses in Uptown/Lower Queen Anne. Sponsored and hosted by local merchants, the Uptown Art Walk runs from 3pm to 9pm (or 10pm, depending on merchant).

Here’s a sample of some of tonight’s events:

The Sitting Room is hosting a carved pumpkin installation, with pumpkins donated by Trader Joe’s.

The Vera Project is celebrating 10 years of screen-printed posters and art created by Weapons of Mass Design. There will be a live demo and prints will be available for sale with part of the proceeds helping buy Vera a new conveyor dryer for their screen printing studio.

Solo Bar is throwing an artist reception for Stasia Burrington’s mixed media on handmade paper exhibit “Stargazing”, curated by Ghost Gallery.

After a long stretch of summery weather, get used to getting out in the rain again and enjoy tonight’s Uptown Art Walk!

Uptown Art Walk features exhibits, live music, and interactive events this Wednesday

Uptown Art Walk July posterThe time seems to fly this summer! It’s already time for another Uptown Art Walk, and the weather (while a bit warm for some) continues to cooperate for the monthly event.

Special events on tap for tomorrow night include:

  • Meet the Queen Anne Historical Society and the Uptown Alliance at SIFF Uptown Cinema to grab some chalk and create art right where the proposed Uptown Parklet will reside!
  • Mercer Street Books will host a live reading with author William Kuko at 8:30pm. Also showing accompanying art from Nathan Wood.
  • Caffe Ladro will be showing works by Lashem from Mossy Tree Mercantile.
  • Oil painter Tracy Wallschlaeger will be showing her latest work at BECU.

This go around, the Art Walk committee has provided a map of the walk along with a list of participating vendors and merchants, so you can plan ahead:

Uptown Art Walk plus live mural art experience and more this Wednesday

Uptown Art Walk JuneOn Wednesday, June 18th, the Uptown Art Walk celebrates all things art and local Lower Queen Anne businesses open their doors to make it a lively experience for all.

This time around, the organizers invite everyone to start the Art Walk at any time during the day, with official hours running from 3pm to 9pm/10pm (depending on merchant). Don’t forget to pick up a Raffle punch card and drop it off at the after party at the Tin Lizzie Lounge at 9pm.

The Art Walk is also a great place to donate to the Queen Anne Food Bank. With the onset of summer, there’s a higher need for food as kids are out of school and school lunches are not an option. You can bring non-perishable food (tuna, peanut butter, etc.) and drop it off at Tin Lizzie’s donation bin. Bring 3 or more items and you get an extra stamp for the Raffle.

Finally, the Art Walk will be running at the same time as a live mural experience at Mud Bay Uptown and an art show by local artists Few and Far Women in “the Bombshelter” at 424 Queen Ave. N. Here are the details on these special events:

Everyone is welcome to stop by the live mural event during the Uptown Artwalk to see artists create art from a blank wall. Plus, there’ll be hands-on art activities for kids presented by The Vera Project and a skate demo-clinic by Skate Like a Girl.

For more information on these special events, visit the Bombsheller page.

Monthly Uptown Art Walk kicks off next Wednesday

You’ve likely noticed that many Queen Anne businesses adorn their walls with artwork from local artists. It’s a great way for artists to get exposure and help keep our businesses beautiful at the same time. However, Queen Anne has been lacking an organized art walk – until now.

Starting next Wednesday, March 19th, the Uptown Art Walk kicks off a monthly tour-de-art. The group that’s organizing the walk has lined up the following local businesses to take part in the walk:

Uptown Art Walk

  • Caffe Vita
  • The Vera Project
  • SIFF
  • Tin Lizzie Lounge
  • Queen Anne Psychic
  • Cafe GoldinBlack
  • Pink’s – The Beauty Boutique
  • Oskar’s Kitchen
  • Liberty Tattoo Seattle
  • The Mecca Cafe
  • Peridot Boutique
  • Mercer Street Books
  • Pagliacci
  • Toulouse Petit
  • Obasan

According to the Uptown Art Walk organizers:

“We were encouraged and facilitated by Charley Shore, the Executive Director of the Queen Anne Chamber of Commerce and were inspired to do something to involve the community businesses in the art that we see all around us in Uptown in what is becoming a real Seattle arts corridor.”

Going forward, the Uptown Art Walk will take place every third Wednesday of the month. The March event highlights the block around the corner of Queen Anne Ave N and Mercer St, and the April event will be on Roy St.

All are welcome to join the Art Walk! It runs til 7:30pm. And, an update: Pagliacci will host a Live Acoustic Music night during the Art Walk. Live music and hot slices beginning at 5pm on Wednesday at the Queen Anne location.
