To commemorate the 40th anniversary of Jimi Hendrix’s death, the Experience Music Project will present a special tribute weekend. Beginning this Saturday (9/18), a collection of rare artifacts from the last years of Hendrix’s life will be on display at the EMP including handwritten lyrics for “Black Gold” and Hendrix’s 1968 Martin D-45 guitar. Clips from iconic Hendrix performances will also be shown on the big screen at EMP’s Sky Church with a playlist of Hendrix songs used as ambient music throughout the museum.
EMP will also feature the documentary “Jimi Hendrix Voodoo Child” co-produced by Janie Hendrix, Jimi’s sister. The film will be free, open to the public, and shown this Saturday and Sunday at 11am, 1pm and 3pm.
