Illegal camping on hill halted

A Queen Anne View reader has tipped the View that suspicious activity and illegal camping that had been going on in a remote greenbelt at 12th Avenue West and West Blaine Street was thwarted Wednesday.
The resident, who had witnessed suspicious people prowling around her car and other cars in the neighborhood, had also noticed six tents set up in the area where “No Camping” signs had been posted. The resident had spoken with Seattle Police and later with the Customer Service Bureau for the City of Seattle which sent personnel out to the site. The city officials found at least six tents set up on the remote greenbelt and told the campers that they had to get out within 48 hours or face arrest. The officials also informed the campers about legal housing options and drug rehabilitation programs. No word on whether the campers have complied yet, but the Seattle Department of Parks and Recreation said it will comb the greenbelt weekly to deter any further camping. The View will keep readers posted on any new information.
