Oscar Yinguez scored midway through the first half, then assisted on Hunter Le Blanc’s goal late in the game, leading Notre Dame de Namur to a 3-1 non-conference men’s soccer victory against Seattle Pacific on Thursday night at Interbay Stadium.

The Falcons (0-1-1) got onto the board for the first time this season when senior forward Ryan Brand (Portland, Ore.) tapped one in through traffic in front of the left post at late in the 84th minute.

Notre Dame de Namur of Belmont, Calif. (2-1) also got a goal from Cristobal Montes in winning its second straight game. SPU plays host to Metro State of Denver 4:30 p.m., Saturday at Interbay.

Falcon women pummel Notre Dame 6-1

In women’s play, freshmen forward Ali Martin scored the first two goals of her Seattle Pacific career – tallying both just 90 seconds apart late in the game — and senior forward Mandy Verdoia also scored a pair as the Seattle Pacific women bounced back from a rare home field soccer loss with a 6-1 rout of Notre Dame de Namur on Thursday afternoon. Senior forward Brandi Hamre (Bremerton, Wash./Central Kitsap HS) added a goal and an assist for the Falcons (2-1-0), who shook off last Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to nationally second-ranked UC San Diego and are now 49-2-4 on their Interbay Stadium turf since September of 2006.

Freshman midfielder Demi Waitley (Coronado, Calif.) tallied her first goal for SPU. Massiel Castellanos spoiled the shutout when she scored a 64:06 for the Argonauts (1-3) of Belmont, Calif.

Seattle Pacific plays host to Nebraska Omaha at 7 p.m., Saturday at Interbay. Although the rosters are now entirely different, the Falcons and Mavericks played for the 2005 NCAA Division II title, with Omaha winning in overtime, 2-1. The Mavericks are in their first year of reclassifying up to Division I.
