Starting today, Safeway is holding its Every Bag Counts donation event at its two locations at 2100 Queen Anne Ave. N. and 516 First Ave. W. From today through Dec. 24, customers can buy a $10 pre-packed bag of food to donate to help feed neighbors in need. But anything helps. And there is need.
Northwest Harvest reports a 35 percent increase in demand for food statewide. The number of families in Washington struggling with hunger has nearly doubled since 2008 and nationally, Washington ranks 11th in the nation for hunger.
