Sustainable Seattle announced the winners of its Sustainable Community Outstanding Leadership and Innovation Awards Thursday and among the winners was The Community Kitchen NW.
The Community Kitchen has kitchens in neighborhoods including Queen Anne (in the Queen Anne Community Center at 1901 First Ave. W.) and is newly operated by Seattle Tilth. The kitchen is a community kitchen whereby neighbors get together, prepare food for the week, and sometimes eat together at the same table. The organization won the Social Environment category under leadership in sustainability.
Reed Painting won in the Natural Environment category under innovator in sustainability.
The painting company, out of Wallingford, collects used paint cans from homes and businesses throughout the city. This year it collected much of its paint from Queen Anne during its paint drive. It takes used paint and recycles it.
Elta Ratliff was also recognized as a key fundraiser for both Sustainable Queen anne and Sustainable Magnolia.
