Metro suggests replacing north part of Route 2

In an attempt to streamline and become financially viable, Metro is making changes. In Queen Anne, it is suggesting the replacement of the north part of Route 2 between downtown Seattle and Queen Anne, with service on Route 13, using the same routing south of W McGraw Street.

Why? Metro says the following:

  • A reduction in duplication as the more frequent Route 13 would consolidate Metro’ss service into a single frequent route.
  • Customers in Queen Anne will no longer have to choose between two routes that stop at different locations, or try to guess which bus will come first.
  • Match service to ridership. During non-peak periods, ridership along Sixth Avenue West and West Galer Street does not meet Metro’s guideline for continued service. When demand is higher during peak periods, service would be provided on Route 2 Express.

One View reader is not pleased with Metro’s suggested changes. The reader writes:

I’m certainly not “confused” about the fact that I would have to walk an additional 20 minutes, to commute to work each way, everyday. I don’t know anyone who is confused by the “choice” of riding the No. 2 or the No. 13 since the upper Queen routes are at a minimum six blocks apart.

Honestly, if the schedules are so “confusing” maybe that issue should be addressed rather than reducing our neighborhood bus service!

Metro’s changes will be finalized in June and activated in September. Click here for more details on proposed changes.
