Seattle Animal Shelter Pet of the Week: Nana

Pet of the Week

On Fridays we feature an adoptable pet from the Seattle Animal Shelter (SAS). SAS is located at 2061 15th Ave W, just north of Whole Foods, at the corner of W. Armory Way. SAS is open Wednesday – Sunday, noon-6pm.

Queen Anne View has not met any of these pets – SAS is providing us with the description, as they know them well. We encourage potential adopters to get in touch with SAS and work with them to evaluate the compatibility of your home and a new pet.

Meet Nana!

Hi, my name is Nana though I’m also known as Nana Banana. I like to be petted on my head, bunny dancing, being petted and salads. Did I mention that I really, really enjoy being petted? I’m a female, Rex rabbit, around 5 or 6 years old, though a lady never reveals her true age.

I’ve had a bit of a rough time, but I’m feeling strong and healthy now. I’m a very smart, curious rabbit and I love exploring. I like having space to run around and dance, and enjoy you sitting with me and watching how fast I am. I think I would enjoy another bunny companion, or a friendly cat or guinea pig! I have excellent litter box skills and would make a great addition to a home where the humans can appreciate me.

Nana 2013-7-24 3Rabbits need a large rabbit-proofed area of your house to live in. In addition they should have an hour or more of supervised free roaming playtime daily for exercise and stimulation. Rabbits are intelligent and social animals; they do best with a rabbit companion and need daily interaction with their human companions. Rabbits should be fed a high quality pellet, fresh leafy greens (lettuce, kale, chard, carrot tops, parsley), and unlimited hay.

With good care and lots of love, rabbits can live to be 7-10 years old. You are expected to make a lifetime commitment to your bunnies, and they should be treated as an integral part of the family. The primary caregiver must be a responsible adult, and young children should always be supervised when interacting with your bunny and instructed on proper approach and handling. Household cats or dogs should, of course, also be carefully supervised and introduced in a calm and quiet manner.

Nana (SAS #13-2271) is being adored in a SAS foster home. If you are interested in meeting this sweetie, please call the foster care hotline at 206.684.0685 or email SAS Foster Critters.
