Seattle Animal Shelter Pet of the Week: Muffin

Pet of the Week

On Fridays we feature an adoptable pet from the Seattle Animal Shelter (SAS). SAS is located at 2061 15th Ave W, just north of Whole Foods, at the corner of W. Armory Way. SAS is open Wednesday – Sunday, noon-6pm.

Queen Anne View has not met any of these pets – SAS is providing us with the description, as they know them well. We encourage potential adopters to get in touch with SAS and work with them to evaluate the compatibility of your home and a new pet.

Special SAS Event: Free Fabulous Felines!

There’s no better time to adopt a cat or kitten. Thanks to the generosity of the Seattle Animal Shelter Foundation and its donors, the Shelter is waiving adoption fees on all cats through August 11! (License fees still apply.) The Shelter currently has a great variety of adoptable cats, including older kitties, adults and kittens. Come on down and find the one (or two!) that’s purrrfect for you.

Pet of the Week – Muffin

Muffin 2013-8-8 3Muffin is a fairly active and curious girl who likes attention, loves to rub against you and have her ears scratched, and will sit in your lap with hardly any introduction. She is small and slender with a long elegant tail and likes to be brushed; she keeps herself quite neat. She’s fairly talkative, never saw a string she didn’t want to play with, and is fascinated with her foster family’s bird feeder.

Muffin is a great companion that wants to be where the action is. She likes to be near her people, sitting happily in laps or napping nearby. If you get up and wander off, she will eventually go looking for you! She likes to take at least one nap a day on her person, in their lap or stretched out on top of them, purring. She’s not really fond of full body massages or being picked up, but likes to be petted, talked to, and played with. She is very gentle and doesn’t use her claws when playing or even when startled out of a lap.

Muffin 2013-8-8 1It is likely that Muffin has always been an indoor cat, and is house trained. She loves watching birds and squirrels at the feeder, and really would like to get to them but doesn’t seem to yearn to go outside. She lives in a three dimensional world, jumping onto counters and tables, so ground-rules must be set. She’s somewhat fascinated by sinks, especially if you are rinsing down foam. She plays with toys, string, and kicking pillows, has low reaction to catnip, and is a very good eater (always tries whatever is offered to her). Her foster family almost had her playing fetch with a small tossed toy, but after 8-10 tosses and returns she seemed to forget the rules. She’ll improvise toys – pen tops, peanuts, erasers, even a collar that was taken off, it now turns up all over the house.

Muffin has a funny, adorable squawk! She varies between “eow” and other catly sounds, but also squawks, and will sing if lonely. She’ll greet you at the door with a small flurry of squawks and rubs against your legs. She would be good with other cats in the house and may even be a good playmate for a small dog after a supervised introduction. Muffin likely wouldn’t enjoy the noise and handling of a child, but she may be fine if left to approach a child on her terms in a supervised setting.

Muffin is a lively, sweet gal looking for a forever home. Call today to meet her!

Muffin (SAS #13-1256) is being lavished with attention in a foster home. If you would like to meet her, please call the Foster Care Hotline at 206-684-0685 to arrange a meeting.
