Pet of the Week

UPDATE: well, you snooze, you lose… or in this case, win, as both Kung Fu and Hwang Goo have been adopted. Good news!

On Fridays [this week we’re a day late] we feature an adoptable pet from the Seattle Animal Shelter (SAS). SAS is located at 2061 15th Ave W, just north of Whole Foods, at the corner of W. Armory Way. SAS is open Wednesday – Sunday, noon-6pm.

Queen Anne View has not met any of these pets – SAS is providing us with the description, as they know them well. We encourage potential adopters to get in touch with SAS and work with them to evaluate the compatibility of your home and a new pet.

Pet of the Week – Kung Fu and Hwang Goo

Kung Fu Hwang Goo 2013-8-16 1Kung Fu and his brother Hwang Goo are a bonded pair of young gerbils that must be adopted together. These adorable boys are well socialized and love to spend time with people, exploring during playtime and bopping around in their cage. They were surrendered when their former family was surprised by a litter of young gerbils. Kung Fu is more curious and outgoing, while Hwang Goo is a little more reserved.

Gerbils like to burrow and make nests underground, so these two will need an ample enclosure with room to run around, explore and create a series of tunnels under their substrate (the material in the bottom of their enclosure). You’ll need to provide a rodent-friendly substrate (no wood shavings) that is at least 3-inches deep to allow for burrowing. Your gerbils will also need a running wheel and access to food and water at all times.

Kung Fu Hwang Goo 2013-8-16 2These boys will need a high-quality store-bought gerbil diet, supplemented with timothy hay and fresh foods daily: tofu, lettuce, parsley and the odd bit of fruit. Never had a gerbil before? Check out petgerbils.org and gerbilsaspets.com for more information on living with gerbils.

There is a low fee to adopt gerbils from the Seattle Animal Shelter; however, you are expected to make a lifetime commitment (3 to 4 years) to your adopted gerbils. The primary caregiver must be a responsible adult, and your gerbils should be treated as an integral part of the family.

Kung Fu and Hwang Goo (SAS #13-7041-1 & 2) are at the Seattle Animal Shelter. Come meet these engaging boys today!
