Last week, the Capitol Hill blog mentioned that the owners of Big Mario’s Pizza on Capitol Hill were planning a Queen Anne location later this year. We contacted Big Mario’s and their press person promised to send details soon… but, the cat’s out of the bag, so to speak, as Eater today revealed that Big Mario’s will open on Queen Anne in the fall.
Earlier this year, we had several readers inquiring about the old Panos Kleftiko Greek restaurant at 815 5th Ave N – it had closed and the windows had been papered over. A few construction workers were spotted, but they weren’t around enough to clue us in on the plans.
It turns out that’s the space that will house the new Big Mario’s location. It’ll be next door to Caffe Vita, and the owners told Eater “we’ve been looking at Queen Anne for a long time… and our partner Mike had this unique space. It’s an old building, and needs a ton of work but it truly feels like a Big Mario’s.”
On their Facebook page, Big Mario’s says to expect their delivery footprint to “expand a lot” with the new location.
Expect renovation work at the old Greek restaurant as Big Mario’s owners get it prepped and ready for moving in this fall. In the meantime, you can check out the Capitol Hill location’s menu here and whet your appetite for New York style pizza from Big Mario’s.
