UPDATE #2: The rooster, which is actually a hen, is on its way to Maple Valley, per Reddit:

“Guys we got the chicken, it’s being taken to a nice place in Maple valley as we speak!”

UPDATE: a reader who has chickens says this bird may be a chicken and not a rooster. No positive ID though and no one has claimed this bird as of 6pm Thursday.

A reader alerted us to a lone rooster wandering around Ward St between Aurora and 6th Ave N yesterday morning. When he returned home last night, the rooster was roosting (no pun intended) in a plum tree on the north side of Ward St:

Today, I headed over to track the rooster down, and he was literally crossing the road at the intersection of 6th Ave N and Prospect. That’s about a block away from where he spent the night, and he was criss-crossing the road to evade pedestrians. He may return to the plum tree on Ward St tonight.

If you know this rooster, please let us know via tips@queenanneview.com. Also, if you are a backyard chicken expert and can confirm if this guy is a rooster or if we’ve mistaken a hen for a rooster, please let us know (image search indicates rooster… but I’m not an expert).

Please note: while Seattleites may keep up to 8 domestic fowl, roosters are not permitted per Seattle Municipal Code. If he isn’t claimed, Seattle Animal Shelter will need to be contacted.
