Gilman Gardens is a self-sufficient community garden located on Gilman Drive W that is similar to the City of Seattle’s P-Patch gardens, but run by volunteers. Once an abandoned SDOT lot, the colorful garden spot in the median at Gilman and 13th Ave W is now a thriving community garden.
Gilman Gardens is a self-sufficient community garden, and it’s a great way to get your hands dirty with urban gardening. If you’ve been on a P-Patch wait-list or have been hoping for a garden spot near or on West Queen Anne, you’re in luck. There are currently three plots available at Gilman Gardens.
Each plot is $50/ year (similar to the City’s P-Patch gardens). Gardeners have to pack in their own water and keep the area around the plots weed-free. The annual fee helps pay for upkeep of the garden, such as woodchips for the pathways, tools, and other expenses for the community garden.
