Lower Kinnear Park will be getting many needed improvements this summer and fall, including trail upgrades, a refurbishing of the tennis court, and new hillside vegetation. Ultimately, Friends of Lower Kinnear Park (FOLKpark) is paving the way for improved safety, ADA access to certain areas, and upgrades of several park entrances.
To achieve these Phase 2 goals, FOLKpark is applying for a Department of Neighborhood Large Project grant and is asking for community members’ help to get the grant.
What do they need? Obviously, a cash donation is always welcome, but FOLKpark also needs people to volunteer their time. If you can pledge a minimum of 4-6 hours in 2013 to help out Lower Kinnear Park, take the FOLKpark Volunteer Pledge and Survey.
And, here’s what’s on tap for Summer/Fall – all events that need volunteers:
- series of “Talks in the Park” exploring the history, design, plants, and wildlife in the Park
- ribbon cutting ceremony after the Phase I improvements are complete
- tennis event to celebrate the completion of the tennis court renovation
- “doggie event” for the Lower Kinnear Park off leash dog park
The survey is short (10 questions) and it includes a pledge to help FOLKpark with the volunteer and cash match it needs. Take the survey today and help out one of our local parks!
