GiveBIG until May 3rd and help your favorite Queen Anne non-profit

It’s that time of year, time to GiveBIG to your favorite Seattle-area nonprofit and have that donation matched by the Seattle Foundation. Many Queen Anne area nonprofits are participating, so it’s a great chance to support a local non=profit and have your dollars go even further via a stretch pool:

“All donations made through Seattle Foundation’s new GiveBIG website, hosted by Kimbia, will receive a percentage of the matching funds (or “stretch”) pool. This percentage depends on the size of the stretch pool and how much is raised in total donations on GiveBIG day. In 2014, the stretch pool was $1,000,000 and the total amount of stretch-eligible donations was $12,800,000. The stretch percentage worked out to 8.3% (or approximately 8 cents on the dollar).”

The Seattle Foundation will “stretch” all donations up to $2,500 per donor, per organization. And, you can donate to more than one organization, the Seattle Foundation allows donors to give up to 30 organizations in a single transaction. The one-day online charitable giving event, GiveBIG raises money for nonprofits, and you can donate from now up until Tuesday, May 3rd to have your dollars matched.

Here’s a selection of Queen Anne nonprofits that are participating this year:

  • Queen Anne Helpline
  • Queen Anne Food Bank
  • Queen Anne Farmers Market
  • Queen Anne Historical Society
  • Picture Perfect Queen Anne
  • Seattle Center Foundation

GiveBIG: With help from the Seattle Foundation

Join The Seattle Foundation tomorrow, May 2, for the second annual GiveBIG– a one-day, online charitable giving event to benefit nonprofits in our community. Donations made to nonprofits through The Seattle Foundation’s website will be stretched further thanks to The Seattle Foundation and GiveBIG sponsors, who will match a share of every contribution.

“Each donation made through The Seattle Foundation’s website between midnight and midnight (Pacific Time) on May 2, 2012 will receive a pro-rated portion of the matching funds (or “stretch”) pool. The amount of the “stretch” depends on the size of the stretch pool and how much is raised in total donations on GiveBIG day. For example, if a nonprofit organization receives 3 percent of the total donations during GiveBIG, then it will receive 3 percent of the stretch pool, so the more donations you give through GiveBIG on May 2 the more it will benefit SIFF,” reads SIFF’s email on the campaign.

Seattle Foundation’s GiveBIG challenge underway

Today is your chance to donate to Queen Anne charities and have your money go further.

The Seattle Foundation is hosting the “GiveBIG” challenge from 7 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. to support a long list of charities around town, a great many of which are based right here in Queen Anne, including the American Cancer Society – Great West Division, ArtsFund, Book-It Repertory Theatre, Forgotten Children’s Fund, Friends of KEXP, GreenStage, Hilltop Children’s Center, KCTS Television, Northwest Folklife, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Pacific Science Center, Pottery Northwest, Queen Anne Helpline, Seattle Center Foundation, Seattle Children’s Home, Seattle Children’s Theatre, Seattle Repertory Theatre, SIFF, Susan G. Komen for the Cure Puget Sound Affiliate, Whim W’Him and more.

The money donated to charities through GiveBIG will be “stretched” by $500,000. Here is how the “stretch pool” and match works:

Credit card donations made during this time period will be counted as GiveBIG donations and used to calculate distribution of the stretch pool. The amount of a nonprofit organization’s share of the stretch pool will be based on the percentage of donations the nonprofit receives of the total online contributions made through on June 23. In other words, distribution of the stretch pool will be pro-rated. If X organization receives 1% of the donations through our site on GiveBIG, they will receive 1% of the stretch pool dollars.

Here is the long list of charities that are participating. There will also be a Golden Ticket given away every hour. Donors will be chosen at random to have more money donated to the charity they chose to support. Most tickets are worth $1,000 but the one-time extra special Golden Ticket is worth $5,000.
